Everything you need to install, set up, and use Spatz SEO, in one place. New here? Start with Quick start, then work through the setup steps. Looking for one specific thing? Use the contents below.
Spatz SEO is an AI-native SEO plugin for WordPress. Instead of a control panel full of settings to configure, it gives you an agent you talk to: it reads your site, tells you what’s wrong in plain English, and makes the fixes you approve. It covers both ranking in Google and being cited by AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude.

What Spatz SEO is
Three ideas shape the whole plugin:
- An agent, not a settings page. You describe what you want in plain language; it handles the SEO specifics.
- You stay in control. It never changes or publishes anything on its own. It proposes; you approve; and any change reverts in one click.
- Your AI, your key, your data. It connects directly to Anthropic with your own API key — no metered credits, no markup, and your content never passes through anyone else’s servers.
Requirements
- WordPress 6.5 or newer
- PHP 8.1 or newer
- An Anthropic API key (for the AI features)
- Works with Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, and Bricks, and with both WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads
Quick start
Up and running in about five minutes:
- Install and activate the plugin (see Installing).
- Go to Spatz SEO → Settings, paste your license key, and click Activate.
- On the same page, paste your Anthropic API key and Save.
- Click the Spatz SEO button in your admin bar — the agent opens.
- Type “Audit my homepage.” You’re now using it.
The rest of this document covers each step and feature in full.
1. Installing the plugin
- After purchasing, download the Spatz SEO
.zipfrom your account area. - In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New.
- Click Upload Plugin.
- Click Choose File, select the
.zip, and click Install Now. - Click Activate Plugin.
- Spatz SEO now appears in your dashboard menu.
2. Activating your license
Your license unlocks automatic updates and support.
- Go to Spatz SEO → Settings.
- Find the License section.
- Paste your license key and click Activate.
- The status changes to “Active.”
If your license lapses, the plugin keeps working — you simply stop receiving updates and support until you renew.
3. Connecting your Anthropic API key
The AI features run on your own Anthropic key. You pay Anthropic directly — usually pennies per task.
Get a key:
- Go to the Anthropic Console (console.anthropic.com) and sign in or sign up.
- Add a payment method.
- Create an API key and copy it (it starts with
sk-ant-).
Add it to Spatz SEO:
- Go to Spatz SEO → Settings.
- Paste the key into the Anthropic API key field and click Save.
Your key is encrypted the moment it’s saved and is never shown in full again.
Recommended: check the Daily spend cap (default $5/day) while you’re here — it’s the most you can spend on AI per day.
The one rule: it asks before it acts
This is the most important thing to understand: Spatz SEO never changes anything without your approval.
When the agent wants to fix something, it shows you exactly what it will change and why. You approve it — or skip it. Nothing happens until you say so, and anything you approve can be undone in one click. You can’t break your site; experiment freely.
Opening and using the agent
- Click the Spatz SEO button in the admin bar at the top of your screen.
- The agent panel opens beside your current screen (you can keep working).
- Click the message box, type what you want in plain English, and press Enter.
- The agent reads your site and replies, explaining what it found.
You don’t need any SEO knowledge — just describe what you want.
Approving or skipping changes
When the agent wants to make a change, it shows a proposal card:
- Read each proposed change and its reasoning.
- Choose: Approve all, approve individually (tick the ones you want), or Discard.
- Approved changes apply to your site immediately.
Undoing a change
- Go to Spatz SEO → Activity Log.
- Find the change (each row shows date, page, and what changed).
- Click Revert. It rolls back instantly.
The activity log records every change with before/after values — it doubles as an audit trail.
Suggestion chips
After some replies, small buttons appear above the message box with suggested next steps. Tap one to send it without typing. They appear only when there are several useful next steps, and clear once you send anything.
Things you can ask
The agent understands plain language. A menu of common requests:
Getting started
- “Audit my site and tell me what to fix first.”
- “What’s wrong with this page?”
- “What are my biggest SEO wins right now?”
Titles and descriptions
- “Write a meta description for this page.”
- “Find all pages missing a description.”
- “My title is too long — fix it.”
Optimizing
- “Optimize this page for [keyword].”
- “How can this page rank better?”
Schema
- “Add the right schema to this page.”
- “Add FAQ schema to my services page.”
Rankings (needs Search Console connected)
- “How is this page ranking?”
- “What am I almost ranking for?”
- “Why am I not ranking for [keyword]?”
Results
- “Did my changes work?”
- “What’s working on my site?”
Content
- “What should I write about next?”
- “Suggest internal links for this post.”
AI search
- “Is my content ready for AI search?”
- “Set up my llms.txt file.”
Images
- “Add alt text to my images.”
Local
- “Improve my local SEO.”
Maintenance
- “Redirect [old URL] to [new URL].”
- “Show me my 404 errors.”
- “Import my SEO data from Yoast.”
Optimizing a page
You can set SEO fields by hand or have the agent do it.
In the block editor:
- Open the post or page.
- In the editor sidebar, open the Spatz SEO panel.
- Fill in any of: meta title, meta description, focus keyword, canonical URL (leave blank normally), noindex / nofollow toggles, and social image.
- Watch the search preview show how it’ll look in Google.
- Click Update to save.
In the Classic Editor:
- Open the post.
- Scroll to the Spatz SEO box below the content.
- Fill in the same fields.
- Click the normal Update button — the fields save with the post.
With the agent:
- Open the page.
- Open the agent and type **”Optimize this page for [keyword].”**
- Approve the changes it proposes.
Every page gets a self-referencing canonical tag automatically unless you override it.
Schema (structured data)
Schema helps Google and AI understand what a page is, making you eligible for rich results. No code required.
The easy way:
- Open the page.
- Ask the agent “Add the right schema to this page” (or be specific: “Add FAQ schema”).
- Approve it.
Manually:
- Open the page in the editor and open the Spatz SEO panel.
- Find the Schema section and choose or edit the type.
- Save.
To validate: ask the agent “Check that my schema is valid.”
Auto-Blog
Auto-Blog writes posts for you on a schedule.
The quick way:
- Open the agent and type “Set up an auto-blog.”
- Answer its questions and approve the plan it proposes.
Manually:
- Go to Spatz SEO → Auto-Blog.
- Create a schedule: set the category, days of the week, time, and whether posts save as drafts or publish automatically (start with drafts).
- Add topics to the queue, or let it generate them.
- Set writing controls: audience, point of view, reading level, call-to-action, banned words.
- Choose a featured image option: Smart, Reuse-only, AI-only, or None.
- If images are generated, set your AI image provider and paste that provider’s API key (the page links you to where to get one).
- Save — posts are created on your schedule.
For reliable scheduling on a low-traffic site, ask your host to set up a real cron job hitting
wp-cron.php.
AI search readiness (GEO)
Prepare your site to be found and cited by AI assistants.
- Check your GEO score: ask the agent “How citable is this page to AI?”
- Generate llms.txt: ask “Set up my llms.txt file.”
- Control AI crawlers: go to Spatz SEO → Settings → AI crawlers and turn each AI bot (GPTBot, Claude-Web, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot, and others) on or off, then Save.
- Generate alt text: ask “Add alt text to my images” (or “…my whole media library”).
Google Search Console
Connecting Search Console lets the agent use your real ranking data.
- Go to Spatz SEO → Settings and find the Search Console section.
- Click connect/authorize.
- Sign in to Google and grant access.
- Now ask things like “How is this page ranking?” or “What am I almost ranking for?”
Your Search Console credentials are encrypted at rest.
Outcome tracking
This answers “did my changes work?” — honestly.
- Make changes with the agent, and make sure Search Console is connected.
- Wait about four weeks so there’s a before and after to compare.
- Ask the agent “Did my changes work?” or “What’s working?”
- It shows how impressions, clicks, and position changed for those pages.
Outcomes appear only on pages with enough search traffic, and are always presented as a correlation (“impressions are up since the change”), never a guarantee. New or quiet sites will show “not enough data yet” — that’s expected.
Site memory
Telling the agent about your site makes its advice far more specific.
- Go to Spatz SEO → Agent Memory.
- In Business context, write a few sentences: what the site is for, who it serves, which pages or products matter, your location, and your main goal (sales, leads, bookings).
- Click Save business context.
- The Learned memory below fills in automatically over time. You can Regenerate now to refresh it, or Clear learned memory to wipe just that part.
The agent uses both in every conversation.
Sitemaps
- Your XML sitemap is generated automatically at
yoursite.com/sitemap.xml(with news and video sections where relevant). - Keep it clean: functional pages (checkout, cart, login, account) and empty pages shouldn’t be listed. To remove one, open it and turn on noindex — it drops from the sitemap automatically.
- Submit your sitemap URL in Google Search Console.
Redirects and 404s
Create a redirect (e.g. after changing a URL):
- Ask the agent **”Redirect [old URL] to [new URL].”**
- Approve it.
Check broken URLs:
- Ask “Show me my 404 errors.”
- Decide whether to redirect or fix each.
Local SEO
For businesses serving a physical area:
- Ask the agent “Improve my local SEO.”
- Provide your business name, address, and hours (or ask it to add them).
- Approve — it adds the correct LocalBusiness schema so you show up for nearby searches.
Importing from another SEO plugin
Switch from Yoast, Rank Math, All in One SEO, or SEOPress with no data loss.
- Go to Spatz SEO → Tools.
- Choose the plugin you’re switching from.
- Click Import and let it run. (It only fills empty fields, so it’s safe to run again.)
- Important: afterward, deactivate your old SEO plugin so the two don’t produce duplicate tags.
Exporting your data
If you ever switch away:
- Go to Spatz SEO → Export & Data.
- Choose the target plugin (Rank Math, Yoast, AIOSEO, or SEOPress).
- Click Export — your fields are copied into that plugin’s storage.
To remove all Spatz SEO data on uninstall, turn on the delete data on uninstall toggle on the same page. (By default, deleting the plugin leaves your data in place.)

How it works under the hood
You don’t need this to use the plugin, but it’s here for completeness.
The AI connection. Spatz SEO talks directly to Anthropic with your key. The key is encrypted at rest and decrypted only server-side per request — never sent to your browser. Requests go straight from your server to Anthropic; the plugin authors are never in the path. Different tasks use different models — a powerful one for the agent, a fast cheap one for light background work, a strong writing model for deep rewrites.
The agent loop. When you send a message, the agent runs a reasoning loop, calling tools to read your site (fetch posts, run SEO checks, pull Search Console data, analyze rendered HTML, compare against search results) and to propose changes. The loop is capped so it can’t run indefinitely, and it has a large toolset (60+ tools).
Rendered-page analysis. Most plugins read the raw database content, which is wrong on page builders. Spatz SEO fetches your page over an internal request and analyzes the rendered HTML — the same thing Google crawls — so its advice is accurate on Elementor, Divi, and Bricks.
Applying and reverting. Approved changes are written and logged with before/after values, which is what makes one-click revert possible. Destructive actions are flagged and confirmed.
Background jobs. Auto-Blog, the memory summarizer, outcome measurement, sitemap pinging, and log pruning all run on scheduled cron jobs — never on a visitor page load.
Security
- Encrypted secrets. Your API key and Search Console credentials/tokens are encrypted at rest with libsodium (AES-256-GCM fallback). The encryption key is derived from your
wp-config.phpkeys plus a per-install salt, so a database leak alone can’t decrypt anything. The key is never sent to your browser. - Spend and rate guardrails. A daily spend cap (default $5) and a 60-writes-per-60-seconds limit mean the agent can’t run away with your budget.
- SSRF protection. Image-fetching tools reject internal/cloud-metadata URLs and cap download size.
- Hardened output. Schema JSON-LD is encoded so a content value can’t break the page.
- Capability boundaries. Admin functions require admin rights; infrastructure tools aren’t exposed to lower-privileged users.
- Full audit trail. Every change is logged and reversible.
Privacy and data
- Your content goes to your AI provider, not to us. Content, prompts, and outputs travel from your server directly to Anthropic with your key. The plugin authors are never in the middle and cannot see them.
- GDPR note: when you use the AI features, Anthropic is your sub-processor for that processing — disclose them in your privacy policy.
- On uninstall: by default, deleting the plugin keeps your SEO data. The opt-in toggle (Export & Data) removes everything — tables, options, encrypted secrets and salts, and per-post meta.
Data storage reference
- Custom tables (prefixed
{wp_prefix}spatz_seo_):conversations,agent_log(audit log),outcomes,costs,analyses,jobs,redirects,notfound. - Options (prefixed
spatz_seo_): settings, encrypted API key, encrypted Search Console credentials/tokens and salts, agent memory, AI crawler choices. Sensitive options are stored without autoload. - Per-post meta (prefixed
_spatz_seo_): the applied SEO fields plus schema, video, location, and product data where set.
Licensing
Spatz SEO uses a yearly license that unlocks updates and support. Importantly, the AI features keep working even if your license lapses — the agent, Auto-Blog, and one-click tools continue on your own API key. Lapsing only stops updates and support until you renew.
Performance
Spatz SEO has no measurable impact on your visitor-facing site speed:
- The agent and all AI features run only in wp-admin, triggered by you.
- The API key and site memory are stored without autoload, so they never load on front-end requests.
- Background work runs in cron jobs, off the request path.
- Repeated AI analysis of the same content is cached for 7 days.
The only front-end output is the SEO itself — meta tags, schema, sitemap.
Troubleshooting
The agent isn’t responding.
- Confirm your API key is saved in Settings.
- Check you haven’t hit your daily spend cap (raise it in Settings).
- Make sure your Anthropic account has credit.
A page won’t appear in Google.
- Open the page and confirm noindex is off.
- Make sure it has real content — empty pages get ignored (“soft 404”).
- Confirm it’s in your sitemap.
- Or ask the agent: “Why isn’t this page getting indexed?”
I want to undo a change.
- Go to Spatz SEO → Activity Log and click Revert.
I’m seeing duplicate meta tags.
- Another SEO plugin is probably still active. Deactivate it (you’ve already imported your data).
No outcomes are showing.
- Normal unless Search Console is connected, you have enough traffic, and it’s been about four weeks since your changes.
FAQ
Will the AI change things automatically? No — it proposes, you approve, and every change reverts in one click.
Do I need SEO experience? No. You ask in plain English; it handles the technical part.
Does it work with my page builder? Yes — it reads your rendered page, so it’s accurate on Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, and Bricks.
Can I run it alongside Yoast or Rank Math? You can, but you shouldn’t long-term — two SEO plugins emit duplicate tags. Import your data, then deactivate the other.
Is my API key safe? Yes — encrypted at rest, never sent to your browser. Rotate it in the Anthropic Console if you ever suspect it was exposed elsewhere.
What does it cost to run? You pay Anthropic directly for AI usage — typically pennies per task — and a daily spend cap keeps it predictable.
